The main entry point for the Queensland Government website is at
http://www.qld.gov.au/ Being exposed to the media, any media, here
or within Australia confirms Queensland is the most robust and
expanding economy and is set to continue its growth well into the
future. That can only be good news for homeowners, property
investors, business builders and innovators who locate and or
deliver their business services to this broad and dynamic
community.
Of course, it's not all about State Government, there are the
Local Government and Councils members who also work very hard to
achieve advances for their local areas.
The Queensland Department of Local Government and Planning's role
is to deliver a better and sustainable built environment and local
government system for the people of Queensland. The portfolio
achieves this through three functional service areas: Building
Codes Queensland, Local Government Services and Planning Services.
|
Their website is at www.lgp.qld.gov.au and they aim to
achieve their role by developing and improving frameworks, which
deliver:
|
- a responsive and effective local government system,
- funding to councils to facilitate the provision of
infrastructure and services,
- sustainable development that balances social, economic and
environmental values,
- performance based solutions for contemporary planning, and
- a safe, healthy and environmentally responsive built
environment.

Brisbane is one of, if not the most affordable and livable
cities in Australia. The region surrounding it, the Great South
East of Queensland is a sub-tropical paradise. Everyone says so!
So it must be true? It is a great place to live, to work, to raise
a family and start or continue building a business. For many the
dreams and the rhetoric about how great, how affordable and how
fantastic SEQ and Brisbane are just do not quite ring true.
However, there are wonderful opportunities, and some related to
home ownership, property investment strategies, and business
ownership and development are within this site. Other very useful,
if not essential sites are contained here with links as
appropriate.
One of the most informative and useful websites for SEQ is that
of Brisbane City Council. It is available at http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/
and links to the Brisbane City Council resources and services.
There is also the Our Brisbane website, which we suggest has a
more community and networking focus, but is also an essential
resource we believe. Go to it at http://www.ourbrisbane.com/

The Queensland Office of Urban Management, whose website is at
http://www.oum.qld.gov.au/?id=1 and whose mission is to provide
leadership in regional planning and to manage urban growth and the
effective provision of infrastructure in South East Queensland is
an important website for home owners, property investors and
business builders to be familiar with. Through a collaborative
approach with the 18 councils of South East Queensland they will
seek to facilitate sustainable development while maintaining a
high quality of life for our residents.
To achieve this mission, the Office of Urban Management works
closely with the 18 local governments and with various Queensland
Government agencies through the Regional Coordination Committee.
South East Queensland (SEQ) is one of the most sought after places
to live in Australia. Our unique lifestyle, strong economic growth
and natural environments are just some of the reasons why SEQ is
the fastest growing region in Australia.
The Office of Urban Management (OUM) has been established to
prepare and implement key regional planning strategies in SEQ to
manage this growth, plan the infrastructure to support it and
ensure that the Queensland way of life is preserved for future
generations.
An important set of resources are the Draft Regulatory maps
under the Regional Plan, and the following link at http://www.oum.qld.gov.au/?id=105

Infrastructure Plan and Program to support the Draft Regional Plan
and guide the preferred pattern of development, the Office of
Urban Management is currently preparing the South East Queensland
Infrastructure Plan and Program (SEQIPP).
Due for release in April 2005, the SEQIPP will identify the main
infrastructure priorities over the next 20 years, with details of
proposed investigations, planning, design and construction over
the period in order to implement the Regional Plan. The SEQIPP
will cover investment in energy; water; transport and freight;
information and communication technology and social and other
community infrastructure.
The SEQIPP will inform and influence the annual Budget process, to
ensure the Government's infrastructure priorities support the
objectives of the Regional Plan. The Infrastructure Plan and
Program is to be reviewed and updated as part of the annual Budget
process to ensure it remains relevant.
The SEQIPP will establish the priorities for the State as well as
better inform infrastructure planning at a local government level,
and even into the private sector.
This also will form and important resource tool for home owners
and property investors alike.
